Romania’s 2024 Shift to Electronic Invoicing: Strategic Considerations for Businesses

Type: Legislation

Romania has gained EU approval to mandate electronic invoicing in B2B transactions, effective January 1, 2024. Sole acceptance of .xml format invoices by the Romanian tax administration is imminent. Businesses can continue generating invoices from their IT systems, but strict adherence to .xml format and mandatory elements is required.

Preparing for this transition demands internal evaluations, technical adjustments, and additional financial allocation. Companies must proactively identify necessary resources and solutions for smooth compliance. Non-compliance risks disruption in processes and partner relationships.

Stay prepared and informed as Romania ventures into its electronic invoicing era, significantly impacting tax technology practices.
