Sweden Updates VAT Invoicing Rules for 2025: Key Changes and EU Alignment

Type: Legislation

Effective Date: January 1, 2025

Sweden is implementing significant changes to its VAT invoicing rules from January 1, 2025, aligning with EU VAT directives and updating the framework for simplified invoices. The repeal of SKVFS 2005:14, replaced by SKVFS 2024:26, marks a shift to modernized regulations tailored for specific scenarios, effective from the end of December 2024. New rules will apply to transactions such as sales via payment machines, public transport ticketing, toll payments, and combined electricity and network service invoices. These adjustments aim to streamline VAT compliance, accommodate technological advancements, and reduce administrative burdens for smaller transactions. Sweden’s updates reflect efforts to harmonize national VAT rules with EU standards while addressing local transactional needs.
