Switzerland ends foreign VAT registration threshold for B2C e-commerce

Type: Legislation

Switzerland will eliminate the VAT registration threshold for non-resident e-commerce suppliers to consumers, following the EU and many other nations in this regard. The current cap is CHF 100,000 and applies to all worldwide income, not only taxable income from Switzerland.

The proposal, which was approved by the Parliament and is awaiting implementation, matches the EU’s e-commerce package from July 2021, which ends the requirement for distance sellers to register for VAT. Following Brexit and the import VAT, the UK threshold was eliminated.

VAT duties for the Swiss market are scheduled to go into effect soon.
