Mandatory E-invoicing and new returns on GST India

Type: Legislation

India is implementing e-invoicing as of 2020. Mandatory e-invoicing will be implemented starting April 1, with businesses with an annual turnover of over Rs500 crore able to opt in voluntarily from January 1st. Businesses with an annual turnover of Rs100 crore can start on February 1st, with the system becoming mandatory in their next financial year. The invoices are registered by the GST network, by uploading invoice details to the government website. This generates a unique invoice reference number (IRN), validated through the IRN portal and the GST network.

Effective date: April 1, 2020
