Update on e-invoicing in the German Federal States

Type: Legislation

Germany is moving forward with e-invoicing in public administrations on a schedule that will make B2G invoicing necessary in the federated states. As of January 1, 2022, the federal states of Sarre, Baden-Württemberg, and Hamburg will require their suppliers to issue electronic invoices, with the exception of direct orders for less than 1,000 Euros.

Since the end of November 2020, suppliers of the national federal government and the Bremen administration have been required to produce electronic invoices. West Mecklenburg-Pomerania will follow suit in 2023, Hesse in 2024, and Rhineland-Palatinate in January 2024.

Effective date: 1 January 2022
